With Saturday, being Earth Day, we will be doing our conservation road cleanup this Tuesday, April 18th, starting at 4:30 p.m. but come when you can. We have 2 miles of road to clean up, and will need the extra hands to help. Please wear long pants, and boots would be best for your feet. We will have plastic gloves available, but if you have work gloves, please bring them. Look for Lisa in the parking lot and she will get you started. I noticed that a few of the Simpson College students had made it out to do some cleanup on one of their work days for the school that helps out in the Indianola community. I thank them for their work picking up some trash and such from around the Rifle Range and probably other spots around our chapter grounds. Tuesday member meeting will be on April 18th and the meal will be Beef and Noodles served by our Trap Chair Kevin King. Free will donation at the door. Speaker plans at this time is Adam Brustkern from Simpson College about our chapter helping out with a class this fall at our chapter grounds. Looking to mentor some of the students in hunting, or shooting sports and along some of our Ikes conservation programs and ideas.
The Iowa Ikes State Convention will be going on the 22nd of April and instead of having the State Trap shoot that same weekend it will be setup for the 8th of July. Hoping for some fine warmer weather as it really is kind of hit and miss in April for sure.
Kids fishing day will be on the first Saturday in June and held out at the Warren County Conservation pond. If you would like to help out with this please contact the WCC office at 515-961-6169. Our plan is to show how to clean the fish and then have a fish fry for some of the fish that has been caught. For all the rifle and pistol shooters please make sure to check out our website at warrenikes.com and see the calendar to make sure we don't have an event going on that would close the rifle or trap range down. This will save you a trip out. Also we will have some one mowing the trails out on the chapter grounds on Wednesday afternoons from about 3 to 6:30 and that will close down the Chapter Grounds for rifle and pistol range. We built and placed out several bag targets just to the east of Trap 4 for ARCHERY practice. Since that time we have found many of the bags have been used by rifles and maybe even some shotguns too. You are put on notice that if this is a member that is doing this you will forfeit your privilege's to use our chapter grounds. There will be signs posted and we will be doing our best to police this with camera's and stepped up rounds made by the Sheriff Department and our other local law enforcement folks.
